When you use a blogging client from your computer\/mobile-phone to upload photos to Wordpress, Wordpress resizes the\nimage into smaller versions (e.g. thumbnail and medium) but the URLs of these resized images aren't returned to\nthe client so it can't use them.<\/p>\n\n

If clients are altered to support this plugin, when you include photos in an entry, the entry could automagically\ninclude the smaller images which link to the full size version when clicked on.<\/p>\n\n

There is a patch to add the functionality in this plugin into the core of Wordpress:\nhttp:\/\/core.trac.wordpress.org\/ticket\/6430\nbut it missed the cut-off from Wordpress 3.0 so it is unlikely to to be included for some time to come.<\/p>\n\n\n

This section describes how to install the plugin:<\/p>\n\n

  1. Upload ImageURLReturner.php<\/code> to the \/wp-content\/plugins\/<\/code> directory<\/li>\n
  2. Activate the plugin through the 'Plugins' menu in WordPress<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n

    Do any Wordpress client support this plugin yet?<\/dt>\n

    As I write this, it hasn't been released yet so: not right now. I plan to add support\nto MaStory for Maemo mobile phones.<\/p><\/dd>\n

    It doesn't seem to be working<\/dt>\n

    Is Wordpress generating thumbnails at all? Look in the same directory as the\nimage was uploaded. If not, the problem is unlikely to be this plugin (it just\nsends the URLs back, it doesn't alter the image generation which Wordpress already\ndoes).<\/p>\n\n

    I've encounter two problems that stop Wordpress generating thumbnails:<\/p>\n\n

      \n
    • the gd library (or the php-gd bindings) weren't installed<\/li>\n
    • The client didn't provide a mime-type for the image. (There is a\ntrac item open to ask Wordpress to work it out:\nhttp:\/\/core.trac.wordpress.org\/ticket\/12518\nbut in the meantime you need to alter the client or manually alter\nyour Wordpress installation as described in the trac item).<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/dd>\n\n<\/dl>\n\n\n
