To learn more about how this plugin works, visit the support page.

How does Termly’s plugin help with data privacy legislation compliance?

Laws like the GDPR, UK GDPR, ePrivacy Directive, and UK’s Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations have strict requirements about how websites can use cookies. Termly’s plugin can help you comply with cookie consent requirements, including scanning your site for cookies, gathering user consent, creating a cookie preference center, and more.

Where can I find out more about the EU and UK laws regarding the use of cookies?

You can find more details about EU and UK regulations like the Cookie Law on the European Commission’s site, and the UK’s PECR on the Information Commissioner’s Office site. For information about how the GDPR affects your website, visit Termly’s GDPR guide.

Is the consent banner customizable?

Yes, you can customize your consent banner to match the look and feel of your website. Edit the colors, theme, text, font, display style, and position using our banner settings editor.

Do visitors need to consent to cookies to use my site?

If you choose to display your consent banner as a top or bottom bar, or as a left- or right-side tooltip, users will be able to continue using your site without interacting with the consent banner. You can also set your banner to disappear when a user scrolls (scroll to consent function). However, if you choose to display your consent notification as a full-screen modal, users will need to interact with the notice before continuing to use your site.

Will cookies on my site be blocked until a user gives consent to their use?

Yes, if you enable auto-blocking through the plugin, non-essential cookies will be blocked until your site’s visitors have consented to your use of cookies. To learn more about setting up and customizing auto-blocking, read our developer’s guide.

Is GDPR Cookie Consent Banner free?

There is a free version of GDPR Cookie Consent Banner that includes all the basic plugin features. The free plan has a limit on unique monthly visitors to your consent banner. When that limit has been reached, your banner will be deactivated until the following month. Consider upgrading to a Pro+ plan to unlock additional monthly visitors and access even more features on your consent banner. Visit our pricing page for more information.

Be aware. This product has now changed so much that the original reviews should be removed from wordpress.org. This "plugin" is now a separate commercial product that looks like it has been designed to track personal information and give this information to termly.io. The plugin now requires you to pay to use it. It is useless for our purposes now and we'll just write our own. It's impossible to security vet this product now without paying to use it. Disgraceful.

Of course I understand that plugin development costs time and money, but if you want to sell a premium version make it worth it by offering extra functionality that makes life easier for the users. Don't takeover a free plugin, strip the functionality and force users to pay to keep their sites working. That's extortion in my opinion! I've had 2 clients using the original free plugin and they don't like this new course, so they don't want to update and pay, but will migrate to a different free plugin that does offer a good functional free plugin and if necessary a premium add-on.

I installed this plugin across work websites and it proved to be useful. Free (we like that), elegant, simple to use, lightweight. Now it is owned by Termly, who have MASSIVELY over complicated the plugin, created all sorts of in-depth policy creation, and a paid plan. I skim read the free vs paid plan table, and continued to set up everything up. Took half a day to complete, involving other members of the team to ensure we had the correct information. 3 days later an email comes telling me the plugin is about to be deactivated because I've nearly reached 100 visitors for the month. Right. I get you want to monetise the plugin. But EVERYONE who used the plugin before you took it over were using a FREE plugin. So it's safe to say that 100% of your target market wanted a FREE plugin. Offer a monetised version if you want, but make it worthwhile? Don't cripple the free one to make it utterly pointless? It is also over the top complex. What should have been a half hour job of updating plugins turned into a half day long mission because of this Termly nonsense - and it turns out it was completely wasted. Deleted and moved on to find an alternative.

The original GDPR/CCPA Cookie Consent Banner that most of the reviews are for has gone. A new company took it over and replaced the plugin with a different one. If you want to subscribe and pay for a cookie popup banner, this may work for you. But the original functionality was such a simple thing anyway, I don't recommend you subscribe to something for that. If you just wanted a cookie popup banner that this plugin was for, then this is not what you want. The devious and quite frankly what should be illegal tactics employed by the new developers are terrible. Its a 0 star if I could do it. To recap, I installed a plugin for some functionality, then the developers removed that functionality and put a paid subscription system on it. I have to update all my websites to remove their plugin now, and find something else. This plugin should have been a NEW plugin not an update. Its not an update. I will not use this company, because I would not trust them at all to update plugins properly in future. Who knows, they could replace this functionality again with something totally new again. Should be illegal.

Like other people I'm dropping this product. A limit of 100 unique visitors for the free version is just ridiculous. Was a simple to use, easily implemented solution. Will leave the old version unupdated while I look at the alternatives. $180 per year per website for a pop up banner is totally NUTS. It's more than I pay for AdvancedAds, which is a sophisticated, full-featured plugin with outstanding technical support. I can't recall seeing such a blatant attempt at extorting a user base in the 15 years I've been using WorldPress. Totally outrageous. #fail
